Ara Babloyan Receives President of Senate of Czech Parliament
1 / 5

On October 4, the RA NA President Ara Babloyan received the delegation headed by the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Milan Štěch. The members of the RA NA Armenia-Czech Republic Friendship Group, Heads of the RA NA factions and the Committee Chairs took part in the meeting.

Welcoming Milan Štěch and the delegation headed by him in the RA National Assembly, the RA NA President highlighted the sustainable development of the friendly relations with the Czech Republic, considering the Czech Republic as one of our most important partners in Europe.

Ara Babloyan underlined the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in the world processes and emphasized the cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the international structures.

The RA NA President thanked the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic for the adoption of the Resolution recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide and other crimes committed against mankind on 25 April 2017.

Ara Babloyan has documented that the European Union has remained and remains one of Armenia’s important partners, expressing hope that in November in Brussels, during the Eastern Partnership Summit by signing the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement the relations will enter into new legal plane.

In the RA NA President’s word, Armenia is concerned about the activation of the political dialogue with the Czech Republic and expansion of the trade-economic cooperation.

Ara Babloyan also touched upon the NK problem, reaffirming the position of Armenia: to solve the problem under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

The RA NA President expressed his anxiety over the events going on in the region: “Our concern is doubled, because the Azerbaijani side does not want to sit around the negotiation table and peacefully solve the problem. The NK issue, unfortunately, is not observed as an execution of the right to people’s self-determination, but as a territorial problem.”

On behalf of the delegation the President of the Senate of the Czech Parliament Milan Štěch thanked the RA NA President for the reception and highlighted the cooperation of the legislative bodies between the two countries and the enlivening of relations.

Milan Štěch also underlined the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in the deepening of the relations between the friendly countries, noting that the parliaments could promote the establishment and expansion of the ties in different spheres.

Mr Štěch has noted that the ongoing reforms and the democratic progress are evident in Armenia and expressed hope that the new treaty being signed with the EU will boost the development of the relations.

Regarding the NK problem Milan Štěch stated: “We agree with you that the issue should be solved through peaceful negotiations, and the OSCE Minsk Group is the only format, by which this issue can be discussed. The OSCE Minsk Group presiding super powers should provide the peaceful solution of the issue.”

Milan Štěch invited the RA NA President to visit the Czech Republic on an official visit.

After the meeting the President of the Senate of the Czech Parliament Milan Štěch planted a fir-tree as a sign of the two peoples’ friendship in the National Assembly Park.
